Community Healthy Activities Model Program For Seniors (CHAMPS)

CHAMPS (Community Healthy Activities Model Program For Seniors) is a public health model program to promote increased lifetime physical activity levels of seniors.

Scientific evidence supports increased physical activity to improve the health and well-being of seniors.  CHAMPS aims to increase physical activity by encouraging participation in activities already offered in their community, based on their readiness, preferences, health, and abilities.  This individually-tailored program is appropriate for people with a range of health levels, as there is some beneficial type of physical activity for everyone.

It was developed and tested through two scientific research studies (CHAMPS I and II), and was then adapted for three real-world community settings (CHAMPS III).  As a model program, CHAMPS has undergone extensive evaluation to assess its effectiveness in all phases.
